1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Arcopolis ("the Platform"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Platform. These Terms apply to visitors, registered users, and people acting on behalf of organizations.

Our Community Guidelines form part of these Terms and explain the standards for contributing to Arcopolis.

2. What Arcopolis Is

Arcopolis is a map-based record of the built environment: who contributed to it, how it came to life, and how people experience it. Professionals can claim specific contributions, researchers can document historical attribution, and anyone who engages seriously with the built environment can contribute perspective.

The Platform brings together personal credits, project and organization records, sources, endorsements, and conversation. It is built for recognition and thoughtful critique, rather than consumer ratings or personal grievances.

Arcopolis is not a licensing body or certification authority. Identity and affiliation checks, endorsements, and historical validations have the limited meanings described below. They do not establish a professional license, guarantee competence, or certify every claim about a project.

3. Accounts and Eligibility

3.1 Your account

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account and contribute to Arcopolis. You must be legally able to agree to these Terms; if consent from a parent or guardian is required by applicable law, you must have it.

Provide accurate identity, credential, and affiliation information. You are responsible for safeguarding your credentials and activity you authorize under your account. Report suspected unauthorized access to support@arcopolis.io promptly. One personal account per person; do not create duplicate or fraudulent accounts.

3.2 Organizations

Personal profiles represent people. Organization records represent firms, companies, or agencies. If you create, claim, or manage an organization record, you must have authority to act for it and must accurately represent your relationship to it. Managing an organization does not give you ownership of another person's contributions or permission to claim their work.

3.3 Paid features

Some features require a paid subscription or an assigned organization seat. Account category, subscription access, and verification standing are separate. Paying for access does not establish authorship or make a record more accurate.

For recurring subscriptions, the price, billing interval, trial terms, and renewal terms are shown before purchase. By subscribing, you authorize recurring charges on those disclosed terms until you cancel. If a trial converts to a paid subscription, cancel before the disclosed trial deadline to avoid the next charge.

Use the available billing management tools to cancel recurring billing, or contact support@arcopolis.io if you cannot access them. The cancellation effective date is shown in the billing flow. Any refund terms disclosed at purchase and applicable legal rights govern refunds. Closing a profile is not a substitute for cancelling a subscription, including an organization subscription you manage.

4. User Content

4.1 Ownership

You retain the rights you hold in the content you submit, including credits, historical attributions, sources, critiques, photos, and organization material ("User Content"). Posting someone else's material does not give you ownership of it. Recording a contribution does not determine copyright ownership in the building, drawings, photographs, or other project work.

4.2 License to Arcopolis

By submitting User Content, you grant Arcopolis a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, reproduce, display, distribute, and make technical adaptations to that content as needed to operate and improve the Platform. This includes maps, project records, search, and shared previews, subject to the content's visibility and applicable privacy settings. We may sublicense these rights to service providers supporting those functions.

This license does not transfer ownership. Use the available editing and deletion tools to manage your submissions. Removal from public display may not immediately remove copies in backups or records retained for security, legal obligations, or resolving disputes. Records contributed independently by others are not yours to remove.

4.3 Your responsibilities

You must have the rights and permissions needed to share your content and grant this license. Do not post copyrighted material without the necessary rights, private information without authorization, or material subject to confidentiality obligations. Credit photographers and other creators where appropriate; attribution alone does not replace permission.

5. Credits and Historical Attribution

5.1 Accuracy and scope

When you claim a credit, you create a public record of your own contribution. Your discipline, role, phases, dates, and scope must reflect the work you actually did. Distinguish the original project from later renovations, additions, interiors, or other interventions. Correct mistakes when you discover them.

Do not claim work you did not do, overstate your responsibility, or assign a living person's credit on their behalf. Organizations may document projects and endorse contributions they can support; individuals claim their own roles. Leaving an organization does not erase an accurate contribution to its projects.

5.2 Trust and access

Arcopolis does not independently verify every credit. A claim alone is not an endorsement or certification by Arcopolis. Claiming your own contributions and reporting or challenging a record about yourself do not require a paid subscription. Account type or verification status does not excuse an inaccurate claim.

5.3 Corrections and disputes

If you believe a record is inaccurate, misleading, or fraudulent, use the available correction or reporting tools and provide relevant evidence. Arcopolis may flag, restrict, correct, or remove records under these Terms. Reviews concern what appears on the Platform; they are not binding determinations of legal authorship, employment rights, or intellectual property ownership.

5.4 Historical attribution

Historical attributions document deceased or historical contributors and remain distinct from personal credit claims. Identify the contributor, role, relevant intervention, dates where known, and basis for attribution. Cite traceable sources, acknowledge uncertainty and conflicting evidence, and distinguish documented facts from interpretation. Do not fabricate sources or use this process to assign a living person's credit on their behalf.

6. Acceptable Use

Follow the Community Guidelines in all contributions, profiles, organization activity, and messages. You agree not to use Arcopolis to:

• Post false, misleading, or fraudulent credits, historical attributions, sources, or credentials
• Harass, threaten, discriminate against, or target individuals or organizations
• Post defamatory, obscene, or unlawful content, or use the Platform to settle personal scores
• Upload images or materials you do not have the right to share, or disclose confidential or private information without authorization
• Manipulate endorsements, validations, or visibility through paid, coordinated, duplicate-account, or inauthentic activity
• Send spam, deceptive recruiting or business messages, or bypass privacy preferences and blocks
• Scrape, crawl, or extract Platform data without written permission, except through tools or integrations we authorize
• Interfere with the security or integrity of the Platform or bypass access restrictions

Recruiting and business outreach must identify who you represent, respect consent and privacy preferences, and stop when contact is declined. Access to search or messaging does not authorize unrestricted reuse of personal information.

Violations may result in content removal, restricted access, account suspension, or permanent termination.

7. Critiques and Opinions

Thoughtful critique is central to Arcopolis. Strong disagreement and negative assessments are welcome when they engage with the work: its decisions, trade-offs, context, and execution. Distinguish firsthand observations, opinions, and factual claims, and support factual claims with evidence.

Critique the work without harassing, threatening, or personally attacking the people or firms behind it. Disclose relevant project, employment, or commercial relationships. Do not use commentary to retaliate, spread unsupported accusations, or settle scores.

User commentary reflects the views of its authors, not Arcopolis. Calling a statement an opinion does not excuse false factual claims, harassment, or other violations of these Terms. You remain responsible for what you post.

8. Reporting and Moderation

Report options are available on credits, critiques, and profiles. Include enough detail to identify the concern and any relevant evidence. You may also block users directly from their profiles. Do not submit knowingly false reports or use reporting to suppress legitimate criticism.

We review reports and take action where appropriate, without guaranteeing removal or a specific response time. Arcopolis may remove, hide, flag, or modify content that violates these Terms or the Community Guidelines, or where needed to address legal obligations, security risks, or harm to the community.

Serious or repeated violations may lead to suspension or permanent termination. Good-faith disagreement or a negative assessment of a building does not, by itself, violate these standards.

9. Endorsements and Verification

Endorsements concern specific contributions. Endorse only what you have a credible basis to support, such as firsthand project knowledge or reliable records. Organization endorsements must be made by authorized representatives on a supportable basis. Do not buy, sell, trade, pressure others for, or fabricate endorsements or validations.

Verification may reflect review of identity, affiliation, or relevant credentials. Historical validation reflects review of a particular attribution and its evidence. Neither is a guarantee that every contribution, source, or statement is correct, or a substitute for professional licensing or independent due diligence.

A subscription alone does not confer verification. Features and badge display may depend on both standing and active access. A subscription lapse is distinct from suspension or revocation for standards violations; paying again does not override a standards decision.

10. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy governs how personal information is handled in connection with the Platform. Public profiles, credits, critiques, and other public submissions may be visible beyond your connections. Respect other people's privacy and your obligations to clients, employers, collaborators, and building occupants.

Do not post confidential project materials, private contact details, or sensitive access and security information without authorization. A building's public location does not make its occupants' personal information public. Contact support@arcopolis.io with privacy questions or requests.

11. Intellectual Property

All platform design, branding, software, and proprietary content - including the Arcopolis name, logo, and underlying technology - are owned by Arcopolis or its licensors and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Nothing in these Terms grants you the right to use Arcopolis's intellectual property without prior written permission.

12. Disclaimers

The Platform is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind to the extent permitted by law. Arcopolis does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any content on the Platform - including credits, historical attributions, sources, building information, endorsements, or user commentary.

You rely on information from Arcopolis at your own risk. Nothing on the Platform constitutes professional, legal, architectural, or engineering advice.

13. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Arcopolis and its officers, employees, and affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of - or inability to use - the Platform.

To the extent permitted by law, Arcopolis's total liability for any claim arising from these Terms shall not exceed the amount you paid to Arcopolis in the twelve months preceding the claim, or $100, whichever is greater.

Nothing in these Terms excludes liability or limits rights that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

14. Suspension and Account Deletion

Arcopolis may restrict, suspend, or terminate access for violations of these Terms or the Community Guidelines, legal requirements, or risks to the Platform and its users. Some situations may require immediate action. Contact support@arcopolis.io if you believe an action affecting your account was made in error.

You may request account deletion in account settings. The current process anonymizes profile details and disables access, then queues permanent account deletion after a retention window. If you are the sole owner of an active organization, you must transfer ownership before deleting your account.

Account deletion does not necessarily remove all contributions. For example, critiques and their reply structure may remain without an active author profile. Independently submitted project and historical records may also remain. Necessary legal, security, and transaction records may be retained. Contact support@arcopolis.io about a specific removal or privacy request.

15. Changes to Terms

Arcopolis may update these Terms as the Platform develops. We will update the date shown above and make reasonable efforts to give notice of material changes through the Platform or email, with any additional notice or consent required by law. Changes apply from the effective date stated in the notice, or the date shown above if no later date is specified.

If you do not agree to revised Terms, stop using the Platform and manage any active subscriptions. Continued use after the changes take effect constitutes acceptance to the extent permitted by law.

16. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of [Your State], without regard to conflict of law provisions. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in [Your State/City].
